Lester Hunt discusses the problem. Since I live in Madison, I can verify that yeah, University Ave needs no repairs, and money spent on it is obviously wasteful to anyone who’s ever been down it. He links to a website where, odds are, you can find equally wasteful items for your own city.

Except if you go down University to where it intersects Whitney Way, you’ll find it pushed up and buckled. It is almost impossible to drive in the middle lanes unless you are going 10 mph. It took them a couple weeks to put up a “rough road” sign, and I’ll bet that’s where the repair will be.
Haven’t we figured out how to build a road that lasts through the Winter?
