Actually, this is only consistent assuming that we have a mandate to make the Old Testament Law into the law of the United States. And this would, of course, require restoring all the stoning offenses to the status of the law of the land, not just stoning for gays. To anyone tempted to do that, I would just ask them to repeat over and over again “America is not ancient Israel. America is not ancient Israel. America is not ancient Israel.”
Christians are to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s which means that we have to give up the idea that the state is a proper instrument for implementing God’s commands.
