The “science and religion are two sides of the same coin” trope is really old, but here’s an even sillier variant, from Hemant’s discussion of Krista Trippett’s new book: “scientists and theologians are asking the same questions.” Yes. Because theologians are trying to figure out how to reconcile relativity and quantum mechanics and how to work out the details of evolutionary developmental biology. Judging something the worst X is always risky given the human capacity to hit bottom and dig, but this may be the dumbest thing that’s ever been said about the science/religion issue.
Science ≠ theology

I wholeheartedly agree with you, though to play devil’s advocate: his statement might have been roughly true back at the emergence of science, maybe 400 years ago (to a limited degree).
I would also note that, even assuming his premise were true it wouldn’t follow that scientists and theologians have the same likelihood of finding useful answers to any question.
(And obviously this is in fact the case, for many simple and very well understood reasons, not the least of which are the perpetual skepticism and competition inherent in science, as well as the complete vacuity of theology.)
