Ashcroft is going to court

Former attorney general John Ashcroft is going to court for detaining people as “material witnesses.” This is a very good thing, because it means some light will finally be shed on this. Like “enemy combatant,” “material witness” is a term that was used to detain people forever without charges. Unlike the “enemy combatant” label, though, there so far has been no Jose Padilla case that got the abuses made under the label clear national attention. Follow the link, though, and you realize the abuses were at least as bad, if not worse.
