Obama’s stimulus rhetoric

I’ve started paying more attention to the debate over the stimulus package, and what I see horrifies me. The theory behind the stimulus package is that going even further into debt is just what we need in an economic crisis–but if so, why didn’t Bush’s fiscal policies make us all rich?

Last week, Will Wilkinson caught an especially ridiculous bit of pro-stimulus rhetoric from Obama himself. Obama suggests that if we don’t do as he says, we’ll never recover. This is an obvious lie: things are no where near as bad as they were in the Great Depression, but we recovered even from that. It’s an obvious lie the way the “my campaign is as important as the Civil Rights movement” rhetoric was an obvious lie. I’m beginning to see a pattern here: Obama gets what he wants with aesthetically pleasing, but obviously false, statements. I’m noticing a pattern here: Obama is slime.

During the campaign, I suggested a McCain election could help by producing divided government, but I never expected that Obama would use the Democratic control of Congress to do something so stupid so soon.

  1. a post that I agree with!

  2. I hear ya. He says the same things as Bush, just in a coherent and eloquent manner. I’ll give him points for that. But how is this third “spend a crap load of money we don’t have” bill any different than the ones passed with the Bush ruled the roost? The bill is 837 billion dollars, all of it will be borrowed from China, our new national “america likes to screw itself” banker. Of that 837 billion, there will be 400 billion in interest added on as we pay it back over time. Besides that, only 30,000 jobs will be created. That is the slimy part. It “keeps” more jobs than 30,000, but does not create any more than 30,000. I’m not sure how anyone knows which jobs would have disappeared without the massive spending bill. Maybe they have a crystal ball in the White House.

  3. p.s. i think i’m moving to Switzerland if they’ll take me. at least they have their banks figured out and don’t tax any income

  4. Josh, now I’m curious: what posts don’t you agree with, and why not?
