I’ve been suspicious about Obama ever since I first heard about his campaign, and will always think it’s an embarrassment that we let someone into the Oval Office based on such ridiculous rhetoric. But recently, Richard Carrier has done a couple of posts making a very good defense of Obama’s policies, first a general discussion of what he’s accomplished, with an emphasis on one cost-saving measure and one on the health care bill.
My thoughts are this: if it all works as intended, it will be a wonderful thing for the country. I worry though about the claim, made by the Congressional Budget Office, that the health care bill will actually lower the federal budget, may just be wishful thinking. Should anyone really be surprised by the thought that when the government estimates the cost of a big fat budgetary item that a large portion of the public wants, they might just be a bit optimistic about the financial impact? But I’m hoping my skepticism here is misplaced.
On the other hand, even if Carrier is right on these items, it doesn’t change that fact the stimulus thing didn’t make a great deal of sense, and the fact that Obama has some serious issues when it comes to constitutional and human rights.
